As the name indicates, ARTS & TEACHING INITIATIVES is not just about the arts nor is it only focused on teaching: we believe in talking INITIATIVE and leading the field with innovative and creative ideas and projects.

This include developing our own skills in areas such as project management and events management on a small scale. We organised and managed the SAGA accreditation workshop funded by DACST and presented by Joseph Gaylard, The chairperson of the NSB, in the Eastern Cape.

ATI organised the cultural programme for the Regional Arts Conference in Port Elizabeth. African art delegates and ministers at the conference were treated to a wide variety of entertainment, including  plays, choir performances and a highly successful jazz evening at Eyethu Taven

The  Senior Art Teachers Initiatives initially focused on all schools in the Western Region ( 739!), but has since decided on more in-depth training and therefore concentrated on 40 schools of which 20 are urban based and 20 rural.

The ATI project has identified 20 schools for more in-depth training in the Langkloof.  This project concentrates on the specific problems of rural schools, namely, multi-class and multi-Learning  Area teaching.

The MTN Artist 21 pilot project focuses on 4 schools and address the in-class problems of. Planning Learning Programmes within the whole-school planning cycle and solving the problems faced by education are priorities of this project.

The directors of the Section 21 company are: Micheal Barry, Nomahlube Hewitt-Coleman, Annamarie Knoblauch, Issac Metembo, Xolile Mpati, Irana Senekal, JJ Westraad and Ndileka Qangule.
