The Art Teachers Initiative was established in 1996 as a joint initiative of the Department of Sports, Arts & Culture, King George V Art Gallery, the Department of Education and Training and the PE Teacher's Center. Originally it focused on the Foundation Phase of Curriculum 2005 with the purpose of assisting educators with implementation of Outcomes Based Educators. Four artists were involved and the sponsorship received from the National Arts Council was limited.
During the ensuing years the project expanded into what is currently a much bigger project ,as a Section 21 company, called Arts and Teaching Initiatives.
